Autism refers to that abnormal withdrawal from the outside world that you observe in a few children. In truth there are more males and females that suffer from this disorder but that hardly counts since they more or less end up the same way removed from everyone else. Personally, I think that is just lonely.
There is still a lot of study that is ongoing into the myths and mythology of autism. Researchers in the United States believe that the ailment in fact is endowed with a wide spectrum of forms and types to choose from. So if the one that your autistic child is exhibiting is one that you know you can handle, thank your lucky stars. There are others that are very difficult to handle.
Say fifteen years ago, there weren t as many autism patients known and diagnosed as there are today. It may not necessarily mean that the numbers have grown so significantly now, merely that there are more and better ways to tell if a child is suffering from the condition than was in the past. These days, both children and adults with symptoms that are not as severe as might be expected, can now be diagnosed.
An autism spectrum disorder is not autism in itself, just a condition that shares a few of the common symptoms of the syndrome. People who suffer these are actually believed to far outnumber those that do not, and the United States is believed to have them in frightening numbers. So, if your child is autistic, you are not alone.
